Someone has managed to get the JV / Lane Assist feature to work in 205w.
The only difference is that you have an additional step to downgrade the 205W firmware to the US v2.80 before upgrading to the SG/MY version. The way to downgrade the firmware is the same as how you change the firmware as shown in the earlier posts.

Works great. The only 'side effect' is that the System | About menu would show as 2W instead of 205W or 255W.

sochai, i just figured out that you need to change the firmware name, here is provided for taiwan with gpd id 932, so the firmware name is 0932...., you need to change into yours, such as 827 (US), 930(SG/MY), you can find your gps id in the *.xml file in your gps, after the part number. I followed all the steps but no LA or JV
ReplyDeleteI've got the 205w upgraded to the sg/ml firware (downgrading to the US first) and have the lane assist function working but I've never seen junction view. Can anyone confirm if JV works using this "hack"?
ReplyDeleteI didn't boot the 205w up after installing the US firmware, just installed the sg/my straight over the top. Is that the correct way to do it? as I can't see JV on european maps.

ReplyDeletei had done,junction view work fine on my Nuvi 2W(nuvi 205W).
1st step. is use 2.80 rgn file Nuvi 2w firmware.
2nd step. is Download the v2.60 firmware from http://download.garmin.com/sg/download/SG_SW_UPGRADE/nuvi255W_SG_v260.exe.
3rd step. is Download the maps from
http://download.garmin.com/sg/download/MapUpgrade/SgMyMal_2009_05_v220.exe
4. When asked for the unlock key, key in the code generated earlier.
5. The maps will be transferred automatically to your device.
Now you got your Garmin Unit with the map and junction view up!

ah, i'm guessing Junction View only works with the sg/my maps and not the european maps I am trying.
ReplyDeleteah, what i've just realized it that junction view has a seperate file and folder in /Garmin which the 205w doesn't have. I guess the malsing maps install this folder and file so you can get junction view but if you have factory installed maps the folder and files won't be there....can anyone confirm this?
ReplyDeleteyes, you are right that originally the JVC folder and file were not there. Yes, you are also right (i think) that the JV only works with the sg/my maps, i.e., in SG, MY, but the Lane assistance works in US (no need to load the MSM map). The lane assistance is not anywhere, just for some large roads in large cities. I simulated my 205w in SG and MY, there is no problem to get some JV, but none in US maps, i read from another forum, gpspassion, that Garmin encrypted the map so that the JV function only works in SG/MY
ReplyDeleteok, so I have a 205w upgraded as above. I want to upgrade the firware to 2.70 - the webupdater doesn't work because the nuvi is hacked - do i download the update for the 255w or the 205w from Garmin?
ReplyDeleteI have done exactly as per the instructions to upgrade my 205W with HWID 930 (flash with US2.8 version first). JV/Lane Assist did not work. Only difference I did was I replaced the GPX file from my old backup. Is that why it failed?

ReplyDeleteRename the 093200010280.rgn to 082700010280.rgn and downgraded with Updater. Successfully reboot itself once. Power off and try to continue to v2.30 but it failed to power up again since. Please help me - its DEAD.
Nuvi255W, please removed the flash for Nuvi 205W, many people facing White screen problem as follow your blog. Garmin change the New main board for new Nuvi, don't lead people flash their nuvi and spoilt their nuvi. Thank you for your co-operation.

ReplyDeleteyou mentioned above it's LCD screen problem ? replace a new LCD ? EG charge $150~$200, my Colleague bought his Nuvi 205w just $299, still under warranty, already passed it to vendor who sent it to taiwan for repair. So, this blog should close, if not, many many many more people will get the trap.
I found an updated guide which tell the reason you get the white screen. It is because of new S4 motherboard. See here.
