Firmware works on all 2x5w(t) series

Frequently asked is the models which are support for firmware change.

All 2x5W or 2x5WT are supported regardless of the region. Meaning, sets from US, UK, EU, TW, AU can do the firmware change.

Remember NOT to load back the original voice files that came with your device. (common mistake)

You can only load the voice / text which are provided in the links below as this is the limitation of the SG/MY firmware.

    What happened to the HWID after flashing, retain old HWID or get a new HWID?

    Took the plunge to the unknown today and glad to report that the flashing was successful carried out and now I have a 255w with 2GB internal memory and HWID=930.

    Hi, jsut bought a 255w US set and tried to flash the firmware using methods recommended. Got stuck at the detecting USB portion. The updater just will not detect the USB connection. What could be the issue ?

    Some update - managed to see the usb connection after I did a webupdate from garmin and the latest firmware (presumably US refurb set) on my 255w is 5.1, but it soon disappeared. I even did a usb driver update from garmin but still no luck. Any advice? Thx!

    Did you install Garmin USB Drivers software version 2.2.1 ?

    Hi Chuka, yes i did. Not sure if that was the reason though as i could see the connection in the updater for a short while, and i clicked "ok" - the updater said "no updates". I keep trying until the usb connection went off. When i tried ok again, the error message was "no usb device found"

    What file name did you use for the RGN file?
    093001000230.rgn or 093001000230sg.rgn. Some how only the name 093001000230sg.rgn works for me.

    Initially I tried 093001000230sg.rgn, but read in other forums that with the 'sg' nothing happens and it should be 093001000230.rgn. So I stuck with 093001000230.rgn since then. I will try with 093001000230sg.rgn and see if it works.

    I just ordered a 255wt, anything That I can do
    to upgrade. Or is this unit okay. This is my first GPS. I know try it first, but I am a take it part kinda guy.

    Hi chuku, had some problem when trying to flash unit. after select "ok" to process the flashing did not see loader appear on the unit, but white flashing screen. Now unit stays with screen flashing white, where did I go wrong, please advice. Thanks!

    This quide is for mainboard version S2 and S3 ONLY !!! This does not work with mainboard version S4, you'll end with white screen !!!!! And USB periodically restarted after connect to PC USB port. !!!!! PERSONAL EXPERIENCE

    my gps is 200w 4.3 inch screen, can convert to 255w?
    how to convert?
    because 200w not have junction view,
    255w have junction view,
    have any problem, if i convert my gps from 200w to 255w, can give some idea?
